2019 esCarpade Day 4 - Rest Day in Mount Gambier

The Rest Day (or Lay Day if you believe the bible) in Mount Gambier is an opportunity for esCarpadians to refresh their cars, themselves and if necessary perform any running repairs as may be required...

First up, Damian and Angus took Retro Rock-It to the car wash...  Damian started feeding coins in, then the owner came over and told him to stop, and finished putting in coins so that the boys didn't have to pay full price to wash the car...

Angus took over camera duties, so Damian got to be in some photos!

Voila!  Is clean!!

Many thanks to the 24/7 Car and Dog Wash in Mount Gambier for their hospitality and use of their car wash, and for their donation to Camp Quality!

Next up, the boys headed out for a well-earned coffee...

Unbeknown to Damian, he had parked right beside the "Cave Gardens".

After having a bit of a look, it was time to go and check out "Blue Lake".

Information about the Rook Wall and Lookout.

Damian climbed to the Lookout...

Doesn't seem that high from the top of the Rook Wall!

Blue Lake - Mount Gambier's water supply.  A volcanic crater averaging 80m deep, with a maximum depth of 204m and a surface area of 170 acres!  That's a lot of water in anyone's language!

Then he climbed all the way to the top of the lookout...

The view was even better... totally worth risking a heart attack for!

Angus had headed to the viewing platform, accessible by an underpass (rather than crossing the main road)...  The light at the end of the tunnel!

The view was still pretty spectacular from there!!

And of course, a Blue Lake selfie!

Next stop, the Umpherston Sinkhole...

There was a seat made from a tree recovered after the Ash Wednesday fire (1983)...

Impressive...

Formal gardens inside a sinkhole...

A viewing hole on the way down the stairs...

Damian was at the bottom taking some photos... Deb from Cat in the Hat took a photo of Damian - see the little yellow dot?

Here's the zoomed in version...

Meanwhile, these are the photos Damian was taking from the bottom...

Cathy aka Mini Mouse photobombing halfway up!

Heading back up the stairs...

And a selfie at the Umpherston Sinkhole...

From left...  Damian, Cathy and Nigel (aka Mini Mouse and Mickey Mouse), Angus, Deb, Geoff and Janice (aka Thing 1, Cat in the Hat and Thing 2).

Next up, it was time to head to Frew Park for a photo shoot with local media...

Noni took some liberties, standing on the bonnet of Retro Rock-It...

Well then...

Rock and Roll!!

Superheroes were a big hit with the media...

Batman kept kicking Cat Woman's foot further out - she was nearly doing the splits by the end!

Bonnets up for a bit of good-natured fun...

Tony getting frisked by Graeme...

Damian thought that his packed away wig looked like he had jammed Ray Martin into his hat and just his hair was sticking out!

Lastly, time to check fluids etc... after topping up oil and brake fluid, Damian hopped under the car to check the transmission fluid...

All good!  Next, knocking the dust out of the air cleaner... while he has a spare in the boot, the current one was still in serviceable condition!

And a good tradie always packs up his tools... and so does Damian, apparently!

After packing up, Damian discovered that the water was turned off in the unit complex - the boys decided to head out for lunch and find somewhere to wash their hands and cool down until the water was back on again!

A relaxing afternoon was in order... stay tuned for a snappy dinner post later!

    1. Heaps... but also plenty of paths... it was so cool and peaceful at the bottom - apart from the guy mowing the lawn!
