Brakes and Stickers

Damian had one minor thing to look into after scrutineering - front brakes.  Booking it into the local K-Mart Tyre and Auto Service (so he could use a gift card donated by the Corvette Club of Queensland), Damian headed off...

After getting it up on the hoist, it was discovered that the front brake pads had plenty of meat left on them, but it was the rears that were decimated...  Unfortunately he had only ordered the front pads, but luckily, he was able to get a set of rear pads on the early morning run!!

Damian decided that since he'd ordered in the front pads (which were showing some signs of uneven wear due to a sticking calliper), he might as well replace both front and rears... And do a complete brake fluid flush!

Test drive time...  Drove like a treat, stopped like a charm!!

Back at home, Damian had decided that the blue Retro Rock-It graffiti on the back just wasn't standing out enough...

How about a nice yellow outline?

That certainly stands out much better from a distance... this is after one coat (hand painted), so Damian will apply a second coat in the coming days...

In unrelated news, it became apparent that there simply weren't enough Camp Quality stickers on the car - unless people recognised the Giggle logo, it might have been confusing about which charity Retro Rock-It was supporting...

The last remaining window sticker (from literally 9 years ago)…

Time to send Giggle on a trip in the Retro Rock-It...

There's a good spot... looks like it could do with a port-hole to look out!!

That's better!!

Next, some of the bravest dry-sticking of a sticker you will ever see...

Dry-stuck on a curved surface across multiple planes and ready for trimming (so the boot can still be opened).  There isn't a photo of the trimmed sticker - it didn't turn out...  The sticker did, but not the photo!!

And removing the backing on the window sticker...  it was painful!!  Nine year old stickers don't want to let go of the backing and attach themselves to windows...

And here's a nice spot for an esCarpade sticker...

Voila!!  There's one on the other side of the car, also, but again, no pictures... Damian's getting slack in his old age!!

How about on the front?  This nice, blank bullbar seems like a good spot!!

Nice...

The last remaining item (other than more stickers, and potentially a bit more theming) is a nice, new set of tyres... they are booked in for next weekend, so hopefully with a good set of all-terrain tyres underneath her, Retro Rock-It will perform well on the roads between Bathurst, Lightning Ridge and Wagga Wagga (and all the stops in between)!!

2018 Brisbane Billycart Championships

An early morning saw the boys and Damian heading in Retro Rock-It towards the Brisbane Billycart Championships, with Tricia following behind in her car (with the Berg Balanz Bike onboard).

Heading towards the Gold Coast...

Boys road trip!!

Up over the Gateway Bridge...

And parked at the 2018 Brisbane Billycart Championships...

Damian checked out the ramps... nice work Rotary Club of Carindale...

Before heading down and adding a Camp Quality banner to the fence at the finish line...

And one in the officials tent...

Some beautifully turned out billycarts were on hand...

And the racing was fast and furious!

The mascot race was pretty slim...  Hogster from Hog's Breath up against Rex from the Scouts...

For those following along at home, the Berg Balanz Bike raffle tickets were all sold...

Ross Stewart from the Rotary Club of Carindale drew the winning number... number 78!

A nice guy by the name of Steve was the winner... he purchased his ticket at the event!!

This was the excitement for the afternoon... there was a bit of a wind whirligig that came through, taking a bunch of papers into the sky, upending marquees, and also whisking away a full-size shade umbrella!!  It went about 50m into the air, before falling back down to earth, thankfully getting caught up in the trees behind the marquees to the left of the picture...

Meanwhile, the racing continued...

Fun for young and old!

A brilliant day was had at the 2018 Brisbane Billycart Championships...  And Damian added to the fundraising total (both through a donation from the Rotary Club of Carindale for Damian's MC work, and from the sale of the raffle tickets).

Horn and a Minor Oops Moment...

The day before the Brisbane Billycart Championships... Damian thought he'd duck up to the shed to check how much fuel was in Retro Rock-It...

Turning the key, he noticed something a bit disturbing... there was nothing at all... the battery was completely flat!!  Looking around, he saw that he had accidentally left the amp on (that powers the external speakers), draining the battery...

Nothing that a quick charge up from the mighty Dmax couldn't fix...

Followed by charging with Damian's multi-stage charger!!  By the morning, it should be right as rain!!

Damian wasn't thrilled with having the claxton horn hooked up to the steering wheel horn button, so he bought another horn...

Now there are two... the claxton and a traditional beep beep horn!!  Woot!!

Next job was to make 100 numbered balls ready for the raffle draw on Sunday…

Hand numbering completed...

This looks like a good bag to store them in...

And there they are, safe and secure until the raffle is drawn!

Lastly, time to load up the Berg Balanz Bike... sadly it doesn't fit in Retro Rock-It, so the lovely Tricia will be driving it down in her car...

Remember to come down to the Brisbane Billycart Championships on Sunday at the Carindale Recreation Reserve, Cadogan Street Carindale!!  Not only will you hear Damian's dulcet tones as he performs MC duties, but you can come and pick up an extra ticket in the raffle before they run out!!

See you all there!!

Fiddly Bits and Raffle Prep

On Sunday 9 September 2018, Damian will again perform MC duties at the Brisbane Billycart Championships.  This year, his lovely wife Tricia will be coming along to sell some raffle tickets!!

And this is the amazing prize - a Berg Balanz Bike - you pedal to make it go and lean from side to side to steer.

This is how far it can lean...

Rear view...

Raffle prize is cleaned, tyres pumped (and front tube replaced as it wasn't holding air), and along with a helmet, it will be up for grabs next weekend!  There will be one hundred tickets (100) at $5 each - the Berg Balanz Bike is worth over $750, so this is a bargain!!

With the Berg Balanz Bike clean and shiny, it was time to put the interior back together...  Regular blog readers would remember that last weekend Damian and Angus went to pre-scrutineering, and afterwards, Damian replaced the UHF radio.  The dash surround is now reinstalled (with the radio in place), with an extra screw holding it in place (the mounting screw on the left was already broken) - amazing the difference between doing stuff to Booger Mobile and doing stuff to Retro Rock-It!!  Whack a screw in, she'll be right!!

The UHF microphone mount was also moved to a slightly more useable position (the old mounting spot was being interfered with by the wiring that Damian ran last year).

Next up Damian tried to get the Berg Balanz Bike into Retro Rock-It...  no such luck!!  Luckily Tricia has a car with a large boot space!!

Just about ready for the Brisbane Billycart Championships...  bit dirty though...

Move around to the side driveway for a quick spray down...

Voila!  Is clean!!

And back in the shed...

On Sunday 9 September 2018, come on down to the Brisbane Billycart Championships (presented by the Rotary Club of Carindale), held at the Carindale Recreation Reserve, Cadogan Street Carindale.

If you do, you will be able to see (or even participate in) the best billycart championships in South East Queensland, you'll also be able to hear Damian's dulcet tones on the microphone... which of course is always fraught with danger!!  Lastly, you could come and buy a ticket in the raffle - $5 each, with a fixed number of tickets available - 100 tickets!!  For $5, you could have a 1 in 100 chance of picking up the amazing Berg Balanz Bike, valued at over $750.

In case you are wondering... here's Damian's son Aidan giving a demonstration on just how much fun the Berg Balanz Bike is!!

Hope to see everyone at the Brisbane Billycart Championships!

Qld esCarpade Experience - Dashcam Videos

As promised, Damian has found the time to sift through a couple of hours of dashcam footage to find a couple of interesting moments...

First up, the moment where the bullbar decided that it would like to be much closer to the bonnet!

Next, a nice slippery hill with ruts and stuff - an example of top navigation by Angus!

Lastly, if you have 15 mins to spare, watch a fast-motion video of the entire 2 hours or so of the esCarpade Experience... Caution though - it might make you a bit motion sick!!

Enjoy!!
