2018 esCarpade Day 0 - Welcome Dinner

After a restful afternoon, Damian and Angus got all scrubbed up ready for the official welcome dinner...

Walking through Bathurst towards the venue, there was plenty of history to check out...

And old buildings...

The people you meet on your way to dinner!

This building apparently has a painted bloke crushed under it!

Damian thought this old building with the officials wandering past it looked pretty cool...

Angus under a tree...

Past the war memorial...

Damian thought this would be a cool photo... Damian thought wrong!!

This building was pretty funny... it's as if they were putting the word Edinborough and suddenly realised they had run out of room!!

Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre...

First up, the driver briefing...

Cara and Ben welcoming the 2018 esCarpadians…

Look at the crowd - they are enthralled!!

This year it's the 27th year.  There are 58 entrant cars and 15 official vehicles, containing 185 people in total.  We'll be visiting 18 towns travelling around 2700km, with 77% on dirt!  Most importantly, the esCarpadians will visit 8 schools with the Camp Quality puppets!

The puppeteers giving a role play on good driver/navigator etiquette... it was unintentionally hilarious!!

Pre-dinner drinks and canapes...

Cheers!

Damian, Angus and Kylie the puppet (with her handler Elleni)…

Turn the flash on... that's better!!

Damian with Cathy and Nigel from Mini Mouse!

Geoff from Cat in the Hat with Damian and Cathy again...

Damian and Giggle...

Damian with his good mate Deano…

At dinner, the helium balloons would prove to be popular, as always...

Johnny from Car 50 with Damian!

Helium balloons collecting on the ceiling... now how did that happen?

Some of them seemed to take secret scrolls with them...

After the formal speeches, the official welcomes, dinner, dessert, a couple of special guests and 5, 10 and 15 year presentations, it was time to call a night an evening and head back to the hotel for an early mark...

Sunday morning will bring the first day of driving... the excitement is palpable!
