esCarpade 2017 - Day 1 - Port Macquarie to Walcha to Armidale

Day 1 of esCarpade 2017, and surprisingly, the boys woke to a bright, sunny day in Port Macquarie!!

Retro Rock-It was waiting patiently in the carpark...

Then down overlooking the water (which was shorter to carry the luggage).

Nice view...

Or for people who prefer portrait to landscape!!

At breakfast, again put on by Marine Rescue NSW.

Quick selfie with Cat Woman (incognito).

Cars lined up...

First driver briefing of the year...  of course, it wouldn't be esCarpade without a quick route change - one of the bridges was out, so it was a trip up the highway for the first part of the morning...

Vroom!!

Past what Adam referred to as a "skydiver catcher"...  bwahahahaha...

Stalking the Camp Quality Board Chairman, Kim...

Past a giant giraffe...

And this place...

Apparently called Timbertown!!

Up to Comboyne...  a lunch venue from a few years back...

Onto the first dirt section...

Heading towards the Ellenborough Falls, which would apparently be spectacular after all the rain...

Hmmm... this was the turnoff... apparently the falls were closed due to a police incident...

So back onto dirt!!

Funny scraping noise coming from underneath...

Crikey... the stick was about 2m long!!

A few cars took the opportunity to sneak past...

Then back on the road behind Teddy Chasers...

Adam apparently had a road named after him...

Cat Woman stopped, but not in need of assistance!!

Stop!!

A bunch of trail bikes and quad bikes were proceeding the opposite way...

And away again...

Stop!!

This time, someone was in need of recovering due to a very slippery hill...

However, on leaving, the hill was nowhere to be found... Seems someone might have been not wanting people to know the real reason for their recovery!!

At about this point, Damian put his foot on the brake and it went straight to the floor... not a great feeling!!

Thankfully, the next good many kilometres were on bitumen - Damian was hoping that it was simply brake fade from overheating...

After a while, the brakes came good again...

So onward and upward!!

Arriving in sunny, downtown Walcha for lunch...

Collected a bit of mud!!

Still looking the goods though...

This must be where the lunch is!!

Adam ready for the driver briefing...

After lunch, the brakes weren't feeling the best, and there was a warning light on the dash, so Damian decided to carefully drive the bitumen to Armidale...

Damian quickly tightened up the bolts holding the bullbar, after pulling it back into place (courtesy of the exit to the hotel the previous day).

After that, they found the delightful Jason from MW3 to look into the brake issue...  Time for a brake bleeding session!!

Unfortunately, when all was said and done, it became apparent that there was a few issues - 1) one of the brake bleeder nipples wasn't...  2)  one of the brake bleeder nipples was seized and damaged from someone trying vice grips on it (not the boys)...  3) the brake master cylinder and/or booster had developed a minor leak, and would necessitate a trip to the brake place in the morning...

So Retro Rock-It picked up where Booger Mobile left off...  with niggly little annoying problems, which are all part of the esCarpade adventure!!

Update:  Check out this clip of Retro Rock-It blasting some tunes in the bush outside Comboyne!!
