esCarpade 2017 - Day 2 - Armidale to Mechanic to Grafton

Day 2 arrived, and Retro Rock-It was basking in the early morning sun, covered in dew...

By the time breakfast came around (about 1/2 hour later), the fog had rolled in.

Sad Adam waiting for a buddy...

Most people did the school visit, then hit the road heading towards Glen Innes...  Retro Rock-It went to the mechanic to get its brake master cylinder looked at.

Huge thanks go to Peter from Platinum Automotive Services in Armidale for rearranging his day to fit in Retro Rock-It...

Up on the hoist...

Plenty of interesting things in the workshop...

Master cylinder removed...

Peter's three ply toilet paper system... ingenious!!

Sorting it out...

The initial thought was that the reservoir was leaking, so the original master cylinder was put back in with a replacement reservoir...

This didn't work.

After replacing the master cylinder with a second hand one from the wreckers, it turned out that the brakes were still playing silly buggers...  time to look at the ABS modulator...

Damian was up in the car on the hoist doing brake on/off duties...

Peter cleaning out the ABS modulator...  The theory is that the second hand master cylinder must have had a bit of crud in it, so when bleeding the brakes, it has gotten caught in the ABS modulator... clearing it out made it all better!!

Second hand (but nicely cleaned up) master cylinder installed...

Having taken much longer than anyone expected, Adam and Damian gave up on the idea of getting to Glen Innes for lunch, and had a quick bite to eat at the golden arches...

The rear suspension continues to look lower and lower!!

Having made the call, and the necessary calls to officials, the boys headed on the road directly to Grafton...

Past this cyclist flying down the hill in the 100km/hr zone...

Over a cattle grid... it's just like being on the track!!

And the windy mountain roads started...

Ploppy rain...

Quickly became heavy rain...

And shortly thereafter, HAIL!!

The boys pulled over briefly, then figured it was just as safe to make slow progress...

So much hail, it looked like it had snowed!!  The temperature outside was a balmy 8.5C...

Eventually, the roads dried out again...

But they got more and more windy!!

And then, more rain, and some small hailstones...

Logging trucks ahead...

But not for long!!

Steep, and windy!!

Eventually straightening out again...

How did that truck get in front again???

Into the outskirts of Grafton...

Across the most terrifying bridge ever...

Looks like it's about to fall down!!

And around to the street that check in was on...

Road closed... try the detour...

Detouring...

Trees...  Wrong end of the street!!

Back around to the correct end of the street...

And into check in...

The day didn't quite go to plan, but it was still an interesting drive between Armidale and Grafton...  With any luck, this will put the brake issues behind the boys for the rest of this trip, and it will be fun and frivolity from here on in!!
